The term new journalism refers to the work of a photographer who is immersed in and is a participant of the documented subject. These photographs are of two trips to Northern Ireland in April, 1982 and August, 1984. I chronicled my experiences with a small group of inhabitants of the Falls Road in Belfast and of Rossville flats in Londonderry. In Londonderry I spent many days with a young man named John McGovern who lived alone with his German Shepherd at the Rossville flats. We spoke several times after I returned to New Orleans; unfortunately we lost track of each other. I have not heard from him since.
